Albuquerque, NM

5 year old
Pitbull Mix (Dogo? Am Bull?)
Neutered, Fully Vetted

Oso has had a rough few months. He was surrendered to the shelter in September by his owner… then adopted several weeks later from the shelter by the ex–sister-in-law of that same owner… only to be surrendered again to the shelter when his new person entered rehab. None of this was Oso’s fault.

Despite all of that, Oso continues to be one of the friendliest, happiest, most people-loving dogs you will EVER meet. Kids, men, women, strangers, if you're a human, Oso thinks you’re wonderful.
Here’s what we know about him:

🐶 Dogs!
He LOVES other dogs and is currently fostered with several males and females of all sizes. He loves to play and matches the vibes of other playful pups well.

🐱Cats!
Super cat friendly from what we have witnessed. He ignores them, especially the meaner adult ones. But has engaged in soft and gentle play with the tiny foster kitten in his home. Talk about a gentle giant!

🧸 Toys + Training
Oso LOVES toys…like, lives for them. Because no one ever taught him how to share or “drop it,” he can get possessive when someone tries to take a toy from him. But this only happens when he is in possession of a toy and someone grabs a toy from his mouth. He EASILY trades the toy for another toy or a treat… or even drops the toy for some affection instead. His human just has to know and be aware of the fact that you just can’t take the toy out of his mouth. Oso is also great in his kennel during the day and at night!
👉 He is going to board & train on the 16th to work on this: building a reliable “drop it” and “leave it,” and helping him learn polite, safe play with his humans.

💛 People
Oso is a total lover. He’s gentle, affectionate, goofy, and genuinely lights up around people. While he’s amazing with kids, he cannot live with children due to his toy-related behavior. He can absolutely have supervised, no-toy interactions with kiddos…and he’s always been gentle in those moments.

⚕️ Medical Support
Oso shows signs of hemangiosarcoma, which may require occasional tumor removal. This is a non fatal type of cancer that is generally easy to manage. When the hermangiomas are caught early enough, they are an easy vet visit and can be “burned off”. And he is so so patient and kind and loving at the vet! Hermangiomas are very easy to spot.
👉 Pitties and Kitties will provide LIFETIME medical support for a qualified adopter.
We are fully committed to giving him the best, longest, happiest life possible.

⚖️ Size
He is a BIG, BIG, BIG boy… but all that size is matched with an even bigger heart.

❤️‍🩹 Oso has two barriers to adoption, his small behavior issue and his medical condition, so we are truly looking for someone special. Someone who sees his soul, not his obstacles.

He deserves a soft landing.
He deserves a forever home that chooses him every day.

If you can give this incredible boy the chance he’s been waiting for, please reach out. We’ll update his bio after he starts board & train! but he is ready to meet his person now. If you’d like to meet Oso before his b&t or during or after, please let us know! We can show you what we have seen, behaviorally, to show you that it’s nothing that someone even slightly dog savvy can’t handle. It’s very manageable in its current state and we hope that his b&t will either resolve it… or help it be even MORE manageable.

Oso is pure love. He just needs someone who will love him back. 🧡🐻
