SPECIALTY VOLUNTEER POSITION(S)
Petco Volunteer/Kennel Coordinator
We are looking for an individual volunteer OR a small team of volunteers that can help improve and maintain our volunteer program with our Petco Kennels!

This is primarily a "work from home" volunteer position! There are opportunities within this position to meet up with volunteers and workers and fosters at Petco... but it is not expected or required.

Our Petco adoption center is one of our most important lifelines... but we urgently need help keeping it running smoothly. We are currently looking for a dedicated Petco Volunteer/Kennel Coordinator to help oversee the care and coordination of our cats and occasional small animals in-store. This volunteer position can absolutely be managed by a single person... but we are open to multiple people helping out with the role if that ends up being the preferred route.

This role helps:
-
Keep our kennels clean, organized, and stocked
-
Ensure animals are happy, healthy, and comfortable
-
Coordinate volunteer coverage and scheduling
-
Communicate with our team about needs and updates
Responsibilities may include:
-
Creating shifts using our "signup" account and publishing them on a monthly basis.
-
Updating shifts when there are no cats in the kennels (aka deleting shifts and/or informing volunteers that were signed up that the shift is canceled)
-
Sending welcome emails to volunteers that sign up and providing them the video tutorial and answering questions they might have about their first shift.
-
Scheduling an experienced volunteer to mentor new volunteers on their first shift if the new volunteer requests mentorship.
-
Monitoring the Checklist form/spreadsheet
-
Keeping track of supplies and restocking needs (from info the vols share)
-
Monitoring health and behavior from information obtained from kennel volunteers or Petco staff
-
Fielding and answering questions from volunteers before or after their shifts
This position is critical to our ability to continue using Petco as an adoption space... especially with kitten season.
Optional Responsibilities:
-
Checking on animals regularly
-
Cleaning kennels and refreshing food/water/litter
-
Helping facilitate meet-and-greets with potential adopters
-
Mentoring new volunteers in person
-
Figuring out process improvements and supply chain improvements for the Petco program
We’re looking for someone who is:
-
Reliable and consistent
-
Comfortable with cats (and basic animal care)
-
Organized and communicative
-
Passionate about rescue
Even a few dedicated hours each week can make a huge difference.

This "position" is not paid. We do not have any paid staff in the rescue as we are 100% ran on volunteers. We absolutely understand that life happens and people get busy... we are grateful for any ounce of support with these tasks. You can pick your "schedule" if you would rather set a boundary of not worrying about these tasks on particular days of the week. This role should NOT be an everyday thing, although it CAN be... but we primarily request that someone is able to dedicate up to 5-10 hours (minimum) a week with these tasks. It can be at whatever hour of the day! :) PKR board members are the "backup" people to take charge when the Volunteer Coordinator is feeling overwhelmed, busy, or is out of town or unavailable. The Volunteer coordinator has the full support of the PKR board when they need to step away for a couple days or a week or so!!!
