PKR believes that an adoption fee should not be a barrier for adoption. Some of our animals have sponsored adoption fees, waived adoption fees, or payment plans. Please reach out if you have any questions regarding a certain animal and the cost to adopt or care for them.

Adopting a dog is not a decision to be taken lightly. Before deciding to add a dog or a cat to your family, please research the pet and make sure that you are ready and completely willing to commit – no matter what.

If you decide to relocate to another city, be aware of that particular city’s ordinances. Not all cities are pit bull friendly. As a potential bully breed owner, you will need to be prepared to deal with hostilities and prejudice from uneducated members of the public. Additionally, you must ALWAYS follow the rules of responsible pet ownership. Bully breed type dogs all over the US are counting on the responsible owners to show the world that they are not villains but the victims of media hype and irresponsible owners.

ADOPTION PROCESS

If you’re ready, willing, and prepared to bring an animal into your home, then it’s time to begin the adoption process!

Pitties and Kitties does not have a physical building so our animals are not available to be viewed by the public. The first step of the adoption process is filling out an adoption application. Our team will contact you shortly thereafter to move forward with the next steps. After the application, we will set up a meet and greet depending on the type of animal and everyone's schedule. Anyone is welcome to meet our dogs when we attend public events. We post all events on our Facebook page.

Our rescue reserves the right to deny applicants for any reason and without explanation. We will never deny an applicant that we truly believe is a suitable and good home for one of our animals. Animal welfare is in an overpopulation crisis and to deny a good home from adopting an animal, would be counter-productive.

Generally speaking, we prefer adopters to be 21 years or older. Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis for adopters less than 21 years of age, but you MUST be at least 18 years or older in order to submit an application.

Additionally, we encourage seniors to apply for older animals in order to be considered. It is our goal to do our due diligence to ensure our animals are adopted into forever homes. Seniors that apply to adopt a puppy or kitten will need to have a backup plan and our volunteers will need to approve of the backup plan in order to be considered. Generally speaking, seniors will not be considered qualified to adopt super young puppies or kittens in order to set everyone up for success. We consider a senior human to be 70 years or older. Please keep in mind that the average lifespan of a pitbull type breed is  12-15 years. An average lifespan of a cat is 10-20 years.

We do not consider fence height or lack of a backyard to be a dealbreaker for adoption. We believe anyone can provide a good quality of life to an animal even if they have a short fence or no backyard.
