Diego
11 months old
Neutered male
Pitbull mix, Fully vetted
Diego is a 11-month-old puppy with the sweetest heart—and a rough start. He spent nearly half his life (4 months!) in the shelter, and it took a toll. He was urgent and at risk because he was declining fast. Can you blame him? A growing pup stuck behind bars, just waiting for a chance to be loved.
Well, now he’s finally in a foster home, and we’re seeing his true self shine through. He’s currently living with four other dogs (2 males, 2 females) and some teenage humans—and he’s doing great! He even managed the impossible: getting his grumpy old-man foster dog brother to play! That alone deserves a medal.
This foster home usually only fosters tiny puppies because their senior dog isn’t a fan of other dogs. But Diego? He got the old man’s seal of approval. Though the other dogs were a bit frazzled by a “puppy in a grown-up body,” Diego is learning the ropes and settling in beautifully.
Dogs: Diego is dog-friendly and respectful, even managing to get the most unlikely foster sibling to join in some play. He’s currently living in a pack of four dogs and navigating those relationships.
Cats: Diego has met cats before and has been neutral and respectful. While he hasn’t lived with them full-time, he’s definitely open to learning how to coexist with your feline friends. He was temporarily housed with some cats and teeny tiny bottle baby kittens!
Kids: He’s being fostered with teens and has met younger kids, including a 6-year-old who loved playing ball with him.
Crate: Diego is excellent in his crate and settles well. Potty training is going really well, though he may mark briefly in a new environment. With routine and consistency, he’s well on his way to being fully house-trained. His only real “puppy habit” right now is m mouthiness, which is understandable for a pup who never really got to “puppy.” This will improve as he settles into a routine.
Energy Level: Diego definitely still has plenty of puppy energy, but it’s manageable with normal young dog activities like playtime, walks, and mental stimulation. He loves to romp and explore but is also capable of settling down when his needs are met.
In short, Diego is a resilient, affectionate pup who’s finally getting his chance to thrive. He’s looking for a family to help him leave the shelter life behind for good and show him what it means to be home.
