Meet Prince, a 6-year-old sweetheart with a heart full of potential. Surrendered to the shelter in December of 2024 with his friend who was adopted quickly, Prince faced extreme shelter stress and desperately needed a way out. Now in a loving foster home, one thing’s for sure: this boy is ready to find his forever family! His foster humans describe him as so gentle and sweet with everything he does.

Dogs: Prince is dog-friendly with males and females of all sizes. When outside, he enjoys playing with other dogs if they’re in the mood, but he’s just as happy to coexist peacefully if they’re not. He is currently being fostered with a 5lbs female chihuahua who is mostly blind. He has stayed in a house with 5 other male/female dogs as well. Inside, he loves to cuddle up with his doggy roommates, and we think having a dog friend would go a long way in helping him feel more comfortable.

Cats: Prince’s previous owner reported that he is not good with cats. He stayed temporarily in a home with some cats and we have concluded a house without cats is best.

Kids: At the shelter, Prince would snarl and growl at people from inside his kennel and showed signs of resource guarding with high-value items. We believe this was due to extreme shelter stress, as we haven’t seen any resource guarding behavior in his foster home. To be safe, we “kid tested” him with a muzzle on, and he was nothing but a kind and sweet gentleman! Prince was calm, affectionate, and gentle with the kiddos—even when they were running around and doing jumping jacks. We plan to test him again without the muzzle once we know him better. He is currently being fostered with 2 teenagers and adores them.

Personality: Prince participated in the shy dog program, and while he more or less graduated, he’s still very timid. It’s clear he spent most of his life as an outside dog because he’s extremely fearful indoors. He stiffens up and seems on high alert, but we believe this is just him pancaking in fear. One of his quirkiest habits? Prince hops from carpet to carpet to avoid laminate, wood, or hard flooring. This likely contributed to his extreme stress at the shelter. His current foster home has hard floors and he is slowly getting used to it.

But outside? Prince is like a completely different dog. Confident, curious, and carefree, he comes alive in the open air. He’s already starting to enjoy the comforts of indoor life, snuggling up on cozy couches and warm beds. With patience and love, Prince is slowly learning that being indoors can be safe and comfortable, too.

Why Prince? Prince is yearning for that forever place to call home. He needs a loving and patient family who will continue to help him feel safe and comfortable indoors. A home with carpeted floors would be a dream for him, but he’s willing to keep working on those hard floors if it means being surrounded by love.

This sweet boy is waiting to bring love, joy, and gentle companionship to the right home. Can you open your heart and home to this older guy? Don’t wait—fill out an adoption application today and come meet Prince!
