Meet Turkey, a 6-year-old sweetheart with a heart as warm as his name. Turkey came into the shelter in November 2024 and spent several months there before heading into foster care through the shelter from January–April 2025. Despite being such a gentle and easygoing boy, he wasn’t getting any adoption interest, so he was transferred into our care—and has been waiting ever since!

Since becoming a PKR pup, we’ve learned so much about him, and we can confidently say: Turkey is one of the easiest dogs ever. He radiates pure laziness… until you have a ball in your hand. Then he’s all energy and joy! He loves tennis balls, footballs—really anything you can throw. He’ll even snuggle them when playtime’s over.

Dogs: Turkey is dog-friendly with both males and females of all sizes. His finder said he did great with their dogs, though he didn’t have the best dog test experience at the shelter. In foster, we’ve seen Turkey befriend many dogs of both genders and sizes and has hung out with up to even 9 dogs in one sitting. He could happily live with other dogs or be perfectly content as your one and only. He just needs a ball, a bed, and a human to thrive. He currently lives with an annoying playful doggy sister who he tolerates and will accept snuggles once she’s done trying to get his grandpa booty to play with her she is deaf and blind and isn’t great at communication… but luckily turkey just gives his human his signature side eye, waiting for his peaceful naptime to ensue

Cats: Turkey lives with cats and kittens! Some like to play on/by him, one wants nothing to do with him, and the rest coexist peacefully—and Turkey is good with all of it. He’s gentle, curious, and respectful, even when a kitten decides his tail is a toy or that he’s a comfy cuddly pillow!

Kids: Turkey is great with kids and does well with them out in public. He’s patient, affectionate, and loves attention. We just recommend younger kiddos playing fetch with him…use a ball with a rope attached—Turkey’s obsession with his favorite game can sometimes make him forget “gentle”!

Crate: Turkey is a total star in or out of his crate. He settles well and doesn’t mind hanging out in it.

Personality & Other Details: Turkey is a loving, easygoing, and adaptable boy who enjoys both outdoor adventures and indoor snuggles. While he’s always down for a little excitement, he’s definitely more of a homebody at heart—a permanent hunchback potato in PJs who’d love nothing more than to snooze on your couch or bed.

Turkey has also been on and off diagnosed with hypothyroidism. He was on medication at the shelter, then taken off when it didn’t seem to help. After being off meds from March–September 2025, we’ve decided to try them again to see if it improves his coat and digestion. If he needs to stay on them long-term, they’re very inexpensive (around $20/month). This condition isn’t anything to be overly concerned about. It is easily managed with a daily pill.

Why Turkey?
Turkey is looking for a family who will love him for the sweet, affectionate, goofy boy he is. He’s great with dogs, cats, and kids—and his gentle soul makes him an incredible companion.

Could you be the one to finally give him the forever home he’s been waiting for?
