Amora’s story is nothing short of remarkable. She was born into hardship in Oklahoma, lived through chaos in Kansas, and finally made her way to New Mexico for a second chance at life. Amora was one of more than 50 pitbulls, the OG mama of the hoard in fact, who suddenly found themselves starving and without care when their only human was incarcerated. With one person trying to manage dozens of dogs, she never got to learn what true human love felt like, only survival in an overcrowded, desperate situation.
When her previous rescue planned to euthanize her for so-called “human aggression,” her fate seemed sealed. But we refused to accept that ending. With the help of another rescue partner, Amora was transported to New Mexico and welcomed into foster care. What we discovered is the exact opposite of what she was labeled: Amora is pure love.
Personality: Amora is the gentlest, kindest soul. She bends herself in half for affection, pressing into you with her whole heart as if to say “thank you for loving me.” She adores people — kids, men, women, strangers. Every person who meets her is stunned to learn she was almost euthanized for aggression, because Amora simply radiates sweetness. Yes, she can be shy at first and sometimes uncertain in new situations. When she feels pressured, she lets out a little groan — not a growl, but more like her way of saying “I’m scared, but I’ll try.” With patience and kindness, she always comes around.
Dogs: Amora has been around LOTS of dogs while being in foster care and is wonderful with all. She will play with super playful ones. And chill with super chill ones. She NEEDS a dog in her future home in order to thrive. Big dogs, little dogs, male or female! Amora would make a great match for most homes!
Cats: Amora entered foster care with very little known about how she would do around other animals, and yet she has adapted beautifully. She is respectful, gentle, and eager to coexist. She is wonderful with kitties and kittens. And usually more scared because her foster home had a very mean and sassy kitty
Kids & Humans: Amora absolutely thrives around people. She blossoms when shown patience, and once she knows she’s safe, her love pours out tenfold.
She is a constant reminder of how resilient and forgiving dogs can be.
Why Amora? Amora was nearly lost forever to a false label. But she is living proof that love and second chances change everything. She deserves a forever home where she will never again be overlooked, misunderstood, or discarded. In return, she will give you a kind of devotion and gratitude that can’t be put into words, only felt in the way she leans her entire body into yours, soaking up every ounce of affection.
Amora is not just another rescue dog. She is a miracle of survival, a teacher of patience, and a gentle spirit who will make her forever family whole. Could you be the one to show her that humans can truly be amazing?
